MS Project comes with 20 built in reports that can be simply selected, viewed and printed. The reports categories are
π· Overview
π· Current activities
π· Costs
π· Assignments
π· Workload
π· Custom
To select and print a report follow these steps
π· Click view, report
π· In the report dialog double click the category you want
π· If the dialog prompts for more information enter it and click ok
π· The corresponding report appears in the print preview

Tracking Progress
If baseline copy of a schedule is saved then baseline values are displayed for comparison.
π· On the main menu click project, select project information
π· The project information dialog box appears
π·Click on project statistics
π·You will get start, finish, duration, work, cost values for current, baseline, actual, remaining
π·Also, you will get percent complete duration %, work %

Saving Baseline
π· Click tools, tracking, save baseline
π· The save baseline dialog appears
π· Make sure save baseline option is selected
π· In the box under the save baseline option make sure that baseline is selected
π· Under 'For:' make sure the 'Entire Project' is selected
π· Click 'OK'

Assigning Resources
π·In the assign resources dialog Task - Resources List options - Resources from project 1
To assign resources from project server
π·Select the task to which you want to assign a resource
π·Click assign resource
π·The assign resource dialog appears, expand resource list option.
π·Under add resource option select from project server
π·The Build Team for Project 1 dialog appears
π·Select the resources you want and click Add
π·Now repeat the steps that appear in highlighted color

Task Dependencies
The project plan will look like a real schedule.
There are 04 (four) types of dependencies
π· Finish-to-start
π· Finish-to-finish
π· Start-to-start
π· Start-to-finish
Creating finish to start dependency
π· Select the task you want to link
π· On the standard tool bar click link task π else use (ctrl+f2)
To apply any tak dependencies follow these steps
π· Select the task that is to become the successor
π· On the standard tool bar click task information or double click the task to open the task information dialog box
π· Click predecessors tab
π· Click the blank row in the task name field and then click the down arrow key to see the list of tasks
π· Click the task that is to be the predecessor to the current task
π· Click the type field then select the type of dependency
π· Click ok
The project guide also provides a quick way to create most common links
π· Choose the task on the project guide
π· Select the Schedule task
π· Select the task you want to link and then choose the link
Defining Milestones
They Can be considered as reporting points.
The milestone marker and date are drawn in the chart area of Gantt Chart
π· To create a milestone
~ Enter the number 0 in the duration field
π· To change a regular task into a milestone do the following
~ Select the task you want to make milestone
~ On the standard tool bar click task information and then click the advanced tab
~ Select the mark task as milestone check box

Organizing Task Into Outline
Collapsing a outline suppresses the display of a sub task
Task at higher outline is called summary task and at lower outline is called sub task
π· Creating a subtask
--Select the task(s)
--On formatting toolbar click indent π (else use Alt+Shift+Right Arrow Key)
π· Creating a summary task
--Select the task(s)
--On formatting toolbar click outdent π (else use Alt+Shift+Left Arrow Key)
Entering Tasks and Duration
π· Make sure you are working in Gantt Chart View (click view Gantt Chart)
π· Type the name of task in the task field
π· Press enter or down key to move to the next row (as soon as you press enter project supplies default duration 1 day? and it also supplies a default start and finish date)
π·Enter the required duration of task in the duration field and the start date in the start field (project automatically calculates the finish date for you)
