Publishing Projects

Publishing Projects

All projects should reside in central repository of project server so that it is easier for the project managers to analyze work. 

To publish projects follow these steps

πŸ‘· Open the project you want to publish

πŸ‘· Click collaborate, publish all information

πŸ‘· The following dialog box appears

πŸ‘· Click ok and save the project

πŸ‘·Enter a suitable name for the project and click save

πŸ‘· Your project now gets saved and goes and resides in the server.

MS Project comes with 20 built in reports that can be simply selected, viewed and printed. The reports categories are

To select and print a report follow these steps

πŸ‘· Click view, report

πŸ‘· In the report dialog double click the category you want

πŸ‘· If the dialog prompts for more information enter it and click ok

Tracking Progress

Project statistics dialog displays summary information about a project.
If baseline copy of a schedule is saved then baseline values are displayed for comparison.
πŸ‘· On the main menu click project, select project information
πŸ‘· The project information dialog box appears
πŸ‘·Click on project statistics
πŸ‘·You will get start, finish, duration, work, cost values for current, baseline, actual, remaining
πŸ‘·Also, you will get percent complete duration %, work %

Saving Baseline

The baseline information is a snapshot of project plan information at a particular point of time. To save baseline follow these steps
πŸ‘· Click tools, tracking, save baseline
πŸ‘· The save baseline dialog appears
πŸ‘· Make sure save baseline option is selected
πŸ‘· In the box under the save baseline option make  sure that baseline is selected
πŸ‘· Under 'For:' make sure the 'Entire Project' is selected
πŸ‘· Click 'OK'

Organizing Task Into Outline

Outlining organizes tasks into structure representing hierarchy of task
Collapsing a outline suppresses the display of a sub task
Task at higher outline is called summary task and at lower outline is called sub task
πŸ‘· Creating a subtask
        --Select the task(s)
        --On formatting toolbar click indent πŸ‘‰ (else use Alt+Shift+Right Arrow Key)
πŸ‘· Creating a summary task
        --Select the task(s)
        --On formatting toolbar click outdent πŸ‘‰ (else use Alt+Shift+Left Arrow Key)


Entering Tasks and Duration

To enter tasks in your pproject plan follow these steps
πŸ‘· Make sure you are working in Gantt Chart View (click view Gantt Chart)
πŸ‘· Type the name of task in the task field
πŸ‘· Press enter or down key to move to the next row (as soon as you press enter project supplies default duration 1 day? and it also supplies a default start and finish date)
πŸ‘·Enter the required duration of task in the duration field and the start date in the start field (project automatically calculates the finish date for you)
